having read a lot of good reviews about this place, i couldn’t wait to go there myself and see what the fuss is all about. being the first restaurant in indonesia *from what i’ve heard* to serve pancake as main menu, pancious pancake house seems to attract many people. cars have been said to park inside and outside the parking area of its first restaurant in permata hijau, all eager to enjoy the pancakes served and maybe the chic and trendy but comfortable atmosphere.
today i had the chance to try it myself, as i went to pacific place. as we walked into the not too spacious restaurant, we were greeted by a waiter and ushered to our table. he handed us a menu full of mouth-watering description and pictures of pancakes and pasta and beverages. i quickly found what i wanted. i ordered a slice of opera pancake, or opera waffle to be exact, since i replaced the pancake with chocolate waffle, and picked chocolate ice cream as the topping. deni ordered a slice of pancake with oreo cheese topping. i chose to order ice tea, to neutralize the sweet and chocolatey food that i was going to have, while deni ordered mint ice tea.
sitting back in my couch, i looked around at the cozy and relaxed ambience, and the modern minimalistic interior, decorated mostly with red, white, and champagne colors. jazz was playing softly on the background while people enjoyed their food and chat with whoever they were with. my drink came first, and then his. the ice tea was just the typical ice tea that you’ll find in any restaurant, i guess there’s not much to expect from a glass of ice tea. on the other side, the mint ice tea was something. i imagined it to be a glass of mint-flavour tea like the ones in supermarkets. but it turned out to be a homemade special, a green tea with minced mint leaves. a lot of them! honestly it didn’t look good at all that i didn’t want to take any sip to try how it tasted. it was green *unlike green tea, this one looks like.. err.. weirdly green* and the minced mints made it even worse.
it didn’t take long before our pancake and waffle arrived. mine looked rather ordinary. it did taste good, the hot waffle combined with chocolate ice cream. and being a chocolate lover, i enjoyed the all-chocolate menu in front of me. but however delicious it was, it was just good. nothing extraordinary. i’m guessing the ice cream was homemade, not to creamy, which was good, but still. i remember the one time that i had waffle at gelare. the two scoops of gelato on top of the waffle tasted like heaven *okay, now i’m exaggerating things, but it did taste really good* the portion was quite generous, though i could use one more scoop of ice cream *again, i’m thinking about gelare* i also tried deni’s order, and the pancake tasted just as delicious. while the waffle was a bit crispy, the pancake tasted soft. overall, i liked the food, the atmosphere and it wasn’t too pricey, too. i think, the price for the food range from 15k to 30k, while the drinks range from 7k to 20k. i do wish to went back there some other time and maybe tried the savoury pancakes, or maybe even pasta.
i guess pancakes has become a trend lately, and as i did a little “investigation” on the net these days, i found two other pancake houses in jakarta. pan & cook, located in puri indah, which specializes in dutch pannekoek, which looked thin rather like crepes *pancious specializes in american pancakes i guess* well, it was quite far from my place, especially only to try some thin pancake, though i’ve receive quite a good input *and some bad* about this place. the other one was pancake parlour located in supermal karawaci. i don’t go there very often, but i’m looking forward to try it. hopefully i’ll find some time and companies. and the fact that it’s a franchise of an australian pancake house make it even more tempting.
on my way back to the car, i bought cappuccino, banana walnut an cheesy cheese muffins at the muffin house. tried a bite when i got home, it tasted quite delicious, though it won’t make it to my list of favorites ^^
we went to the mega bazaar computer fair in senayan and i bought an additional memory for my lovely old pc, and registered myself to speedy for a faster, cheaper, better *crossing my finger* internet connection. yippie! after that, we had dinner at soto ambengan. i don’t think that i’ll be going back there for some time. the food didn’t taste quite as good as it used to be!
